Larch grows all along the Alps, and it can grow in pure or mixed forests with other conifers or beech. The great longevity allows it to reach significant size, with heights of 40 metres and diameter of the trunk that, at breast height, is more than a metre. It has very resinous wood and straight fine grain, providing good resistance to mechanical stress and good durability.
